Cato the Elder once stated, “Carthage must be destroyed.” When looking back on my childhood… no that really doesn’t fit at all. Let me try this again. It was actor Denise Richards that stated,” Doing love scenes is always awkward. I mean, it’s just not a normal thing to go to work and lay in bed with your co-worker.” Looking back through my past memories some of them really stick out, like the time that I tried to climb the giant oak in our back yard and fell, or the time that I tried to jump out of a moving truck, and… fell. There were also memories that I had to “dig a little deeper” for. When I thought about this category of my memories it amazed me how much of a bigger impact these locked away memories had on my life.

One of my fondest memories was the first time that I tried to talk to a girl… about 15 minutes ago. While the exchange might have been as awkward as Mr. Vega trying to give an explanation of hegemony in 2 sentences or as organized as our 4th hour debate class it taught me a little something about myself, that I am a very awkward human being. Now, I know what you must be thinking, “But, Brad, you are the smoothest, most suave person I know.” But, as hard a pill as it is to swallow, I am an awkward person. I don’t know what led to this harsh realization, but it might have been triggered while I was trying to justify my partner’s claims of Japan nuking South Korea.

Also, looking back on my memories I can see that I have had a very boring live, comparatively. When some of my best memories are traveling to Kansas City to watch a Royals game, I think I have a problem. Another thing, though, is memories that I have taken for granted. For example, my family takes a bi-annual trip to Florida in the winter, but looking back on these I notice a real lack of happiness for being in Florida. In a situation where most kids would find themselves as content as Pitt in a sweater vest, I would find myself bored and without much enthusiasm. This reflection on my memories has really helped me find flaws in my ideology and approach when faced with situations, be it talking to a girl or taking a trip to a faraway land.

Here I was, thinking that blogging was a thing of the past, of 2005, a year gone by, and then my Debate teacher decides to assign an assignment. Not just any assignment, an assignment designed to make us think, write, believe. What is this assignment you may ask, and to that all I have to say is, my dear sir, you are reading it. This thing is a blog, not just any blog, but an assigned blog. This brings another subject to light, do people put as much passion into things that are assigned rather than things that are spontaneous? That is for you to decide.

Free, sounds good doesn't it. Well Combat Arms, a Free MMO FPS from Nexon, is just that.

Free, sounds good doesn’t it. Well Combat Arms, a Free MMO FPS from Nexon, is just that. Combat Arms is a free, fast-paced FPS. It plays sort of like a Counter-Strike: Source/ Call of Duty 4 hybrid. The basis of the game is you are a mercenary, with a gun. End of story plot. Then you get thrown on a map where you can play a variety of game modes. From standard Team Death match to the beloved Search and Destroy. There is also a newly added co-op game mode called Fireteam where you and a group of up to 8 other players try to move through a map. This co-op aspect really adds a lot to the online experience.

The weapons on this game are stunning, there are many, many to choose from. There is the standard M16, the Ak47 and variants, the AWP, and many others. Every single gun’s reload animation and sounds just feel right. The game wasn’t created to be a realistic shooter, but I feel it still has some realistic aspects.

The “free-ness” of this title is completely up to the user. You earn GP from getting kills, objectives, etc. You can also buy special weapons and gun crates with NX points, Nexon’s currency standard with all of their games (Maplestory.) I feel that the NX guns are balanced.

The game uses a rank up system that determines what server you can play in. The ranks are named after army ranks. The servers are really balanced because of this system, but there is always the occasional 2nd account-er. I really like the way the ranks are implemented in this game.

My worst point with this game is the slow reaction to hackers and glitchers from Nexon. The hackers in this game aren’t as bad as say Warrock, but it is an annoyance. You can submit hacker reports, but I feel they don’t even read them as nothing is done in a timely manner.

Overall, I feel this is a solid free MMO FPS. I believe that Nexon, of all companies, really made a great product here. I would recommend this game to anyone that loves CS:S or is looking for a good, fast-paced, high scoring shooter. I give this game 8.5/10.
